about

Recorded Spring 1996.

This was actually the third version we did of this song. Previous versions were weirdly industrial - pounding drum machine, angular guitar twanging, buzz-saw distortion.

I don't know what made us try to do this much mellower version, but I'm glad we did.

I've been trying to get my head 'round how we recorded all of this on only four tracks - we never did much "bouncing down" in order to free up more space, apart from on daft things like "JD Stomp".

As far as I can tell, the acoustic guitar and drum parts were recorded onto one track (two separate mics, mixed to one channel, recorded live) with everything else being recorded later onto separate tracks. Despite that, it sounds pretty good.

Giles on Drums and Voice, Me on everything "stringed".

about

Johnny Domino Derby, UK

Giles and Steve formed JOHNNY DOMINO in the summer of 1993.
Over the next 3-4 years they recorded over 100 songs (known as THE SHITHOUSE MASTERS) on a series of knackered 4-track recorders, drafting in other players on an ad-hoc basis.
Long-term SHITHOUSE alumni Jim became a full-time Domino in 1996, followed by Marc.
Johnny Domino played their final gig on December 23, 2006 at The Vaults, Derby.
