about

Before we started working on this album, we had two-days of informal jamming. Due to the fact that I was wating to have a Demagnetiser (or Degausser) delivered for our 8-track tape deck, these were christened the Degausser Sessions.

Now the 8-track was only able to record onto 4-tracks simultaneously. So for this we plugged in every guitar / keyboard / sampler / drum machine / FX box, and recorded whatever came out, ready-mixed to two seperate stereo pairs. The noises we made led to some of the more interesting sounds on "The First 100 Years".

I can't remember if I brought the riff for 'Down' to the Degausser Sessions, or if we made it up as a group. But pretty much all the music on this track can be found on the jammed version.

We even made a video for this song (minus Marc), running around Elvaston Park in Derby - complete with many night-vision effects and extreme close-ups of Mrs Convery's ornamental figurines.

Alas, Giles had the only copy and I can't imagine he would have kept it.

about

Johnny Domino Derby, UK

Giles and Steve formed JOHNNY DOMINO in the summer of 1993.
Over the next 3-4 years they recorded over 100 songs (known as THE SHITHOUSE MASTERS) on a series of knackered 4-track recorders, drafting in other players on an ad-hoc basis.
Long-term SHITHOUSE alumni Jim became a full-time Domino in 1996, followed by Marc.
Johnny Domino played their final gig on December 23, 2006 at The Vaults, Derby.
