This One's For The Kid

from Players by Johnny Domino

about

It's true that JD didn't play live with the same frequency of most other young bands - this was a common complaint that we always had. But we DID play live, and people did like it when we did.

There was a young couple who would come to see us play, and because our collective memories were (and are) feeble we referred to them as 'The Kids'.

Coupled with this, we had a very high opinion of what we were doing (to the point of arrogance) and we spent a lot of time feeling sorry for ourselves for the fact that people weren't queuing up to give us money.

(even that didn't prompt us to play more gigs, however)

So this song is about all of those things, as well as being my attempt at rewriting Billy Joel's 'Scenes From An Italian Restaurant'.

The first demo I did of this song had a really lame third section, which thankfully didn't make the final cut.

The dancing girls should appear at "The race is over..."

about

Johnny Domino Derby, UK

Giles and Steve formed JOHNNY DOMINO in the summer of 1993.
Over the next 3-4 years they recorded over 100 songs (known as THE SHITHOUSE MASTERS) on a series of knackered 4-track recorders, drafting in other players on an ad-hoc basis.
Long-term SHITHOUSE alumni Jim became a full-time Domino in 1996, followed by Marc.
Johnny Domino played their final gig on December 23, 2006 at The Vaults, Derby.
