about

Crazy song, crazy title.

We originally recorded this song for a split-7"-single with Stairwell on Reveal, the label that started out of a sadly-defunct record shop in Derby.

Jim was working there and Tom - Reveal head-honcho - asked him for the song title for our as-yet-unrecorded song. For some reason, he came out with, "The Oh! Chimpy Underground", which we shortened when we rerecorded for 'Players'.

The single was actually the last thing we recorded on 4-track. 'Players' (with the 'Mex / Good Feeling' single) was recorded on the Tascam 8-track Cassette recorder that we clubbed together to buy. The extra space we had gave us the opportunity to include here a track of my guitar through Marc's Korg - just call us Fripp and Eno.

As an aside, I remember recording a full demo of this track when I made up the music. That was pretty much the case for all of the tracks on 'Players'; I think I was working part-time, living with my parents, so the creative juices could flow quite freely. Good times!

about

Giles and Steve formed JOHNNY DOMINO in the summer of 1993.
Over the next 3-4 years they recorded over 100 songs (known ... more as THE SHITHOUSE MASTERS) on a series of knackered 4-track recorders, drafting in other players on an ad-hoc basis.
Long-term SHITHOUSE alumni Jim became a full-time Domino in 1996, followed by Marc.
Johnny Domino played their final gig on December 23, 2006 at The Vaults, Derby. less
