Death of the CZ

from Rabbit Themes by Johnny Domino

/

about

My first synth was a Casio CZ-3000 - a kind of a cross between horrible 80s 'FM' synths and rather cooler 70s analogue beasts.

It was physically very heavy but we used it a lot - from my first musical stirrings (age 12) right up to this point.

One day I turned it on and this was the sort of noise it was making - luckily (?) I had the presence of mind to record it.

One of the many tried-and-tested Lo-Fi recording techniques we always used was turning the TV on randomly and recording what came out - I think this was from a TV adaptation of "Moll Flanders".

SPOILER ALERT - the CZ didn't actually die and continued to be used for many years to come

about

Johnny Domino Derby, UK

Giles and Steve formed JOHNNY DOMINO in the summer of 1993.
Over the next 3-4 years they recorded over 100 songs (known as THE SHITHOUSE MASTERS) on a series of knackered 4-track recorders, drafting in other players on an ad-hoc basis.
Long-term SHITHOUSE alumni Jim became a full-time Domino in 1996, followed by Marc.
Johnny Domino played their final gig on December 23, 2006 at The Vaults, Derby.
