about

Recorded and mixed in Ilkeston between July and October 1999, this is our most concise album - i.e. there's a lot less chaff and arsing about.

When we finished recording "Rabbit Themes" and "The Oh! Chimpy Underground" single, we thought that we'd pretty much done everything we could do within the confines of a 4-track Portastudio. So we clubbed together to buy a Cassette format 8-track recorder. And a compressor unit.

Moving up to an 8-track recorder gave us more space to fill with interesting sounds (guitars through analogue synths, many keyboards, backing vocals, Ikea-bought percussion, etc). Marc inducted me into the dark-side of Steely Dan at this time, while Giles and Jim wrote lyrics about the future, computer games and communication.

The cover artwork is the old John Player's factory in Nottingham - get the whole album for a PDF of the artwork including mine and Giles' cousin Daryl and a Disc Horse.

about

Giles and Steve formed JOHNNY DOMINO in the summer of 1993.
Over the next 3-4 years they recorded over 100 songs (known ... more as THE SHITHOUSE MASTERS) on a series of knackered 4-track recorders, drafting in other players on an ad-hoc basis.
Long-term SHITHOUSE alumni Jim became a full-time Domino in 1996, followed by Marc.
Johnny Domino played their final gig on December 23, 2006 at The Vaults, Derby. less
